The COVID-19 Crisis has created barriers to interpersonal contact and support. Social distancing is necessary to stop the spread of this disease and save lives. Many persons are isolated and will remain so until this crisis is over. Older adults face unique challenges.
The UNE Center for Excellence in Aging & Health is organizing various online learning and support activities to bring people together for the duration of this crisis. This effort is rooted in our Legacy Scholars Program which engages adults, aged 55+ years, in both research and lifelong learning activities. Others are welcome to register for our present online offerings (link below).
- Peer Connections – 1 hour facilitated peer support and fellowship meetings. How has COVID-19 impacted you? Share experiences, discuss ideas for self-care, and learn from others.
- Coffee & Conversations – You make the coffee, and we will provide the conversation! 1 hour topical presentations with time for questions and discussion. Topics will range from practical to informative to fun. A bread baker has volunteered to share his techniques. Medical students will speak about health topics. We even have a Virtual Knitting/Sewing Group! Email Kelly Abrams (below) to join the knitting group.
- Reminiscence Groups – 1 hour discussions of shared life experiences and histories. Each meeting will be organized around a question or theme (e.g., Where were you when you learned that JFK was shot?; What were your favorite TV shows of the 1960’s?; What was it like to be a student at Westbrook College in the 1960’s?). The purpose of shared reminiscence is to learn from each other and have fun!
Want to join in one or more of these online activities?
