{"id":1516,"date":"2026-01-14T14:51:55","date_gmt":"2026-01-14T19:51:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.une.edu\/environmentaladvisor\/?p=1516"},"modified":"2026-02-02T15:03:01","modified_gmt":"2026-02-02T20:03:01","slug":"charging-ahead-at-marcil-hall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.une.edu\/environmentaladvisor\/2026\/01\/14\/charging-ahead-at-marcil-hall\/","title":{"rendered":"Charging Ahead at Marcil Hall"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A new set of &#8220;smart&#8221; EV charging stations at Marcil Hall is now open, adding a different kind of charging option to the growing portfolio of electric vehicle infrastructure available on campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 10 smart chargers at Marcil Hall are open to the public and do not require an EV Add-On Decal or campus parking permit. Vehicles parked in these spaces must be actively charging for the duration of their stay, ensuring the stations remain available for drivers who need them. These chargers were installed through a grant from Efficiency Maine, with funding from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, supporting expanded access to EV charging in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Demand for EV charging continues to grow on campus. In 2022, there were 56 registered EV owners across our campuses; by 2025, that number had increased to 97. The addition of smart chargers at Marcil Hall reflects this growth and helps meet the evolving needs of students, employees, and visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Using the Marcil Hall chargers is simple: pull in, plug in, and pay. Payment can be made through the ChargePoint app or with a credit card directly at the station. EV Add-On Decals do not apply at these chargers. Pricing is $0.20 per kilowatt-hour, with an additional $2 per hour after the first four hours to encourage turnover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each charging space is clearly marked, and if a charger is not working properly, drivers are asked to submit a work order and include the charger number to help Facilities respond quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new smart chargers at Marcil Hall complement existing EV charging options across campus, increasing flexibility and supporting the continued transition to cleaner transportation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images
