RCC Research Assistant Nicole Martin (’21)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

One exciting aspect of conducting research in the RCC lab is the opportunity to share our work with the world. This summer, RCC\u00a0labbie\u00a0Nicole\u00a0Martin (\u201821) got to do just that at the annual Association for\u00a0Psychological Science\u00a0(APS) conference.\u00a0APS\u00a0is a leading international\u00a0organization dedicated to advancing scientific psychology across disciplinary and geographic borders.\u00a0As with many other events this year, the conference was moved from its venue in Chicago, IL, to an online platform. The APS Virtual Poster Showcase allowed\u00a0researchers from across the\u00a0world\u00a0to gather and learn about\u00a0each other’s\u00a0work\u00a0and foster global connections.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nicole shared her research conducted with Dr. Stiegler-Balfour on older\u00a0and younger\u00a0adults\u2019 adoption\u00a0of e-reader technologies and\u00a0its\u00a0effects on their reading comprehension.\u00a0More specifically, their research looked at\u00a0which factors\u00a0influence how these devices are perceived and experienced. Results from their study show that\u00a0with older adults, device type acted as a mediator for expository comprehension, whereas comprehension was consistent for younger adults across device type. Results also point to multiple cognitive factors\u00a0with predictive power\u00a0which vary between age groups, including computer experience and anxiety, mind wandering, and task effort.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sharing research as undergraduate students is an incredibly exciting prospect, and here in the RCC lab we are very lucky to be able to do that regularly \u2013 regionally, nationally, and internationally.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
