Dear Colleagues:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 
The INBRE program is continuing our Small Grants program to support the use of core facility services in Maine and the northeastern IDeA region. Up to $5,000 will be awarded per application. <\/strong>Faculty, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers are invited to apply. Applications from graduate students or postdoctoral researchers require a letter of support from the principal investigator.  Funds are awarded for biomedical research projects only and on a competitive basis. Funds must be spent by the end of the fiscal year (April 30, 2021) <\/strong>and cannot be carried over. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To give you an idea of how these funds might be used, here are examples of recently funded investigators and projects:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Eliza Grlickova-Duzevik, UNE faculty, \u201cNerve growth factor (NGF) regulation of 3\u2019UTRs and RNA-binding proteins\u201d – $5000 for use at the University of Delaware Biotechnology Institute Sequencing Facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jessica Davis-Knowlton, Graduate student at MMC, \u201cRole of smooth muscle cell Notch2 in murine atherosclerotic plaque composition.\u201d – $2200 for use at the MMC Microscopy Core.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Michael Mason, UMaine faculty, \u201cBone Mimics, Hydrogel Collagen Replacements, and Porous Biopolymer Capillary Substrates\u201d – $4939 for use at the UMaine Electron Microscopy Core.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Melody Neely, UMaine faculty, \u201cCharacterization of the Streptococcus agalactiae <\/em>CpsA protein\u201d –<\/strong> $5000 for use at the Jackson Lab Antibody Services Core.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Magdalena Blaskiewicz, UMaine postdoc, \u201cNeuroimmune adipose connections: understanding the mechanistic<\/p>\n\n\n\n

actions of cold-induced neuroimmune cells (CINCs) in subcutaneous adipose tissue.\u201d – $4310 for FACS Services at the Jackson Laboratory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Even Estell, MMCRI postdoc, \u201cConditional Knockout of FNDC5 <\/em>to Investigate Effect of Muscle-Derived Irisin on Skeletal Development\u201d – $5000 for Mouse Transgenic & Gene Targeting Core Facility at MMCRI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
