UNE North is pleased to announce that it will host a UNE community event with Icelandic author, filmmaker and activist Andri Snaer Magnason on April 14, 2021. The University of Southern Maine is cosponsoring the event which is free for all participants. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 90-minute interactive event will celebrate Mr. Magnason\u2019s latest book, On Time and Water, slated for US release in March of 2021. UNE students, faculty and professional staff are invited to attend. The event will feature a presentation by Mr. Magnason as well as opportunities for guided small group discussions of passages from On Time and Water and Q&A with the author. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of On Time and Water,<\/em> Jacob Dykes of Geographical writes, \u201cMagnason explores a disconnect unique to our present generation, when nature no longer exists as an immutable force of its own governance. His solution is to adopt a more romantic reverence for nature\u2019s beauty and power. Decisions on environmental protection should not be based on economic imperatives, but instead on our elemental affinities with the natural world.\u201d (Sept 24, 2020). Magnason achieves this by weaving a tapestry of climate science, myth, family memoir and even interviews with the Dalai Lama.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Magnason\u2019s work reflects UNE North\u2019s core values of interdisciplinarity and co-creation of knowledge across cultures and communities. We hope students, faculty and professional staff will take the opportunity to join us for a vibrant discussion with the author of his work and how it can inform our own work as leaders for sustainable development here in Maine and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
