Houseknecht, Ph.D., associate provost for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.une.edu\/research\">Research and Scholarship<\/a>&nbsp;and professor of pharmacology within the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.une.edu\/com\">College of Osteopathic Medicine<\/a>, will spend part of the 2022-2023 academic year in Spain as a Fulbright Senior Scholar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/eca.state.gov\/fulbright\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fulbright Program<\/a>&nbsp;is the U.S. government&#8217;s flagship international educational exchange program, created to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Houseknecht will serve as a professor-in-residence at the Department of Pharmacology within the College of Medicine at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM; Universidad Aut\u00f3noma de Madrid<em>)<\/em>\u00a0from February to May 2023. While there, she will be engaged in teaching pharmacology with host Manuela Garcia Lopez, M.D., Ph.D., director of<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>UAM\u2019s Teofilo Hernando Institute for Drug Discovery \u2014\u00a0as well as research and collaboration with additional faculty \u2014 on her proposal \u201cIntegrating Mechanisms Regulating Metabolism and Dementia: A Transdisciplinary Approach.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.une.edu\/news\/2022\/associate-provost-karen-houseknecht-named-fulbright-scholar\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.une.edu\/news\/2022\/associate-provost-karen-houseknecht-named-fulbright-scholar\">Read more<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The University of New England is proud to announce that Karen L.
