The start of a new semester presents us with an important opportunity to remind you that staying current on immunizations<\/a> helps protect your student\u2019s health and keeps our campus community safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most young adults in their early 20s are due for the tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap) vaccine. The last dose in childhood is typically given at age 11 or 12 and is then boosted every 10 years after that. Maine requires that all students attending post-secondary schools in the state have an up-to-date tetanus vaccine. Please note that if your student will be due for their tetanus booster while they are here at UNE, a team member in Student Health Services<\/a> can administer it. Keeping this mandated vaccine up to date is essential for keeping your student\u2019s progress at UNE moving forward smoothly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other recommended vaccines include an annual flu and covid booster.  If your student missed our flu vaccine clinic, they can get their flu vaccine at their primary care provider or a local pharmacy with no prescription needed. We highly recommend that you encourage your student to get the flu vaccine, particularly in light of what we\u2019re learning about spread<\/a> and the severity of symptoms during the current season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
