The faculty in our department contribute to the teaching of all basic sciences to first- and second-year medical students, including anatomy, biochemistry, case-based learning, embryology, evidence-based medicine, genetics, histology, immunology, microbiology, neuroscience, pathology, pharmacology, and physiology.
Research and Scholarship
Faculty members within our department are committed to the growth of research and scholarship at UNE. They are dedicated to engaging medical, health professional and undergraduate students in meaningful scholarly pursuits that enhance their educational experience, while advancing our understanding of human health and disease.
The department has research strengths in the neurosciences, particularly in the neurobiology of pain, the limbic system, and neurodevelopment. Other research strengths are in research related to cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, bone health and disease, and scholarship focused on medical education and osteopathic manipulative medicine.
Members of the department are closely aligned with, and actively participate in, collaborative research with colleagues from UNE’s other colleges and Centers for Excellence.
Faculty in the department are also members of 2 COBRES: the Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) for the Study of Cell Signaling and the Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) for the Study of Pain and Sensory Function.
