APPE in Spain By Dr. G. Allen

Fiona Blanchard, PharmD Candidate 2024 and Nicole Bradeen, PharmD Candidate 2024 completed an elective Advanced Pharmacy Practice Rotation (APPE) rotation in Granada, Spain in May to June 2023. During the rotation experience, they took Spanish courses at the Center of Modern Languages. Following this educational course, the students were split into different groups to learn about Spanish nutrition and healthcare in Granada. They had the opportunity to shadow at a local pharmacy and participate in dispensing of medications with the pharmacists there. Students on this rotation also had the opportunity to tour a hospital and see their research laboratories. Students on this rotation experience stay with different host families, affording them many experiences and unique exposure to Spanish culture. The Center of Modern Languages also hosts activities throughout the rotation for students to tour Spain and learn more about their culture through diverse experiences in the community.
