UNE School of Pharmacy chose three Service Learning Liassons by Dr. R. Mayer

The UNE School of Pharmacy chose three Service Learning Liassons to represent their class in community outreach initiatives! Students; Haley Morrill (P3), Delia Mack (P2), and Sara Rea (P1) have been serving this position since the beginning of the fall ’23 semester. These students help UNE play an active role in the community to promote health within vulnerable populations. In addition, our Service Learning Liassons actively recruit other pharmacy students to assist in these community outreach opportunities!
The list of Service Learning initiatives at UNE has continued to expand and UNE pharmacy students have been participating in a wide range of community events! During the month of October students are working with the Maine Department of Corrections to assemble 1,000 Wellness Kits as part of the Harm Reduction Public Health Project. Pharmacy students are also participating in the year-long Reproductive Health Leadership Certificate Program, a partnership with the Maine Area Health Education Center (AHEC) that is focused on addressing reproductive health. This list of opportunities does not end there! If you are interested in learning more about Service Learning opportunities at the University of New England find us here  https://www.une.edu/wchp/service/opportunities or contact our Faculty Service Learning Liasson, Rachel Mayer (rmayer@une.edu).

The University of New England believes that every health professions student should participate in Service Learning to enhance their own skills and to have a positive impact on the health outcomes of their community! Service learning helps students to; become culturally competent citizens, polish their clinical and professional skills, give back to their community, apply real-world applications of classroom concepts, and work as part of an interprofessional team! We hope to see you in the community soon!
