We are excited to welcome Kathryn Norgang to the Center for Excellence in Public Health! Read her introduction and learn more about her background below.
Hello!
My name is Kathryn; please feel free to call me Kate. I’m a global health and emergency nurse; I’ve also worked on health programs in Baltimore city, east and west Africa, and a few other places along the way.
I feel very fortunate to have joined the incredible team at UNE’s Center for Excellence in Public Health as Clinical Educator for Public Health Practice. This role allows me to combine my love of working with students, healthcare workers, and key partners here in my home state of Maine.
I grew up in the midcoast area, specifically Damariscotta-if you can pronounce it correctly, instant cred.! While I loved my time in various far away places, I’m glad to be at home in Maine and to help support the health system here. A favorite word that I learned while living in Rwanda is Turikumwe; this means “we are together”, and it pretty much sums up my belief about health and community.
When not working you will likely find me in the ocean in all seasons, or perhaps skiing with my dog and family. I love to cook spicy soups and stews, and am trying to teach myself to re-upholster old furniture.
