I am a Professor of Psychology and Assistant Academic Director in the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the University of New England (UNE), where I have been since 2010. In addition to conducting research, I also teach courses in Cognition and Memory, Consciousness, a seminar in Cognition and Learning, as well as Statistics and Research Methods.
As the principal investigator of the Reading Comprehension and Cognition (RCC) Lab, I’ve mentored numerous undergraduate students since 2010. My research focuses on the cognitive processes behind reading comprehension, memory, and learning. I believe that the ability to comprehend and recall information is essential for academic and everyday life. My work on the relationship between reading skills, text characteristics, and strategies has been recognized by the Society for Text and Discourse, awarding me the Jason Albrecht Outstanding Young Scientist Award.
I earned my Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology and M.S.T. in College Teaching from the University of New Hampshire in 2010. Originally from Stuttgart, Germany, I’ve lived in the U.S. for over 20 years and now call the coast of Maine home with my husband and two children. Outside the lab, I enjoy traveling, gardening, biking, yoga, and playing at the beach with my kids.
