Work one on one with patients to build personal connections By Dr. K. Sawicki

Dr. Allison White (UNE PharmD class of 2023) states she knew she wanted to work closely with patients in managing chronic disease states, but it wasn’t until her APPE experience with Dr. Sawicki at Penobscot Community Health Care (PCHC), that she decided that ambulatory care was the path she wanted to take in pharmacy. Through her APPE experience she was able to work one on one with patients to build personal connections and provide education in type 2 diabetes management. This experience is what led Ally to decide that PCHC was where she wanted to pursue a PGY1 and continue working closely with patients in managing a variety of disease states. Since beginning her PGY1, she has had the opportunity to run spirometry visits for patients with COPD and asthma to optimize therapy and is making recommendations for hepatitis C and PrEP treatment. Ally is enjoying her time as a PGY1 resident and feels PCHC is providing her a well-rounded experience to help advance her knowledge as a pharmacist
