Healthy Acadia Joins Maine AHEC Network

Healthy Acadia is thrilled to be partnering with the University of New England to serve as Eastern Maine’s Area Health Education Center. Healthy Acadia is a community health organization, with a mission to empower people and organizations as we build healthy communities together. They address the critical health challenges our communities face and make it possible for all people to lead healthier lives throughout the regions they serve. Since 2001, Healthy Acadia has worked with more than 100 community and regional partners to create lasting improvements to the health of communities with an emphasis on connecting individuals with health education and prevention programs and support services, as well as increasing access to quality clinical care. They are primarily based in Washington and Hancock counties, and coordinate programs and services in several other counties across Maine. They are excited to be serving Washington, Hancock, Knox, and Waldo counties through the Eastern AHEC, and Maine AHEC is thrilled to partner with them.

Healthy Acadia is well poised to serve in this role because of our strong collaborations with hospitals, healthcare partners, and community based organizations in Eastern Maine, its excellent track record of successful program implementation in this region, and its commitment to the mission of the AHEC Network. Healthy Acadia has a particular strength in addressing the needs of our rural, underserved communities.

Healthy Acadia looks forward to participating in the Maine AHEC Network and helping to address health profession workforce shortages, to meet health profession learning needs, and to respond to current and emerging issues. This is a critical need in our rural part of Maine, and they are eager to play a role in this work!
