Maine AHEC provided support for an exciting program that is now ready to launch! The Oral Health Navigation Learning Series and Oral Health Foundations micro-credential that is now available through the University of Maine System were developed by the core members of the Oral Health Industry Partnership: Children’s Oral Health Network (COHN), MCD Global Health, Maine CDC, Maine Access Immigrant Network, and Cross Cultural Community Services.
The Oral Health Navigation Learning Series promotes the enhancement of oral health knowledge and skills in Maine. The learning series includes self-paced online modules that may be followed by additional employer-specific training content and experiential learning. The work of an individual who has completed the learning series varies by employment location. Some may use this training to further their knowledge of oral health to expand the functions of their existing roles in serving their communities (e.g., EMS, RNs, CNAs, CHWs, MAs, etc.). Others may use what they learn in this training to seek new employment opportunities within the dental career path.
Those who successfully complete the OHN Learning Series and, if applicable, additional employer specific experiential content, may utilize the information to assist with care navigation, dental team support, patient support, and more. The online modules are grouped together into levels allowing learners to earn Oral Health Foundations Badges issued by the University of Maine System (UMS) along the way.
