First Year Experience

At UNE, we pride ourselves on providing many opportunities for our students to connect with our faculty and staff to receive the support they need to be successful. To achieve that goal, we have created a variety of initiatives that provide specialized support, many of which originate from the First Year Experience (FYE) program.

FYE approach is comprised of three main components:

  • Living Learning and Themed Living Communities — Specialized community groups within our first-year residence halls through which students are housed with peers who share a major or other common interest.
  • Peer Mentor program — Peer mentors, upper-class students who serve as volunteers, are paired with first-year students to help them navigate UNE and all it has to offer.
  • Social and Educational Programming — A regular slate of programs and opportunities such as course registration workshops, off-campus trips, and ‘Mentor Mondays’.
