The Academic and Career Advising Center is staffed by professional academic advisors who assist each first-year and transfer student with their transitions to UNE. This team of advisors begins their work with students prior to their first semester, helping them to create a schedule that is geared toward each student’s major and unique needs. This is also the first step toward building a relationship with a dedicated person on campus whom your student will be connected with throughout all four years. Your student and their advisor will discuss major and career goals, any academic challenges the student may be facing, and various resources UNE offers to assist students.
It may be helpful to know that:
- Your student will work with their academic advisor throughout the summer to create an individualized first-year schedule that incorporates major requirements and student interests.
- Transfer students will meet with an advisor, review all prior college credits and the University’s registration system, and discuss course suggestions that align with a degree path in their intended major. Note that transcripts for any prior coursework should be submitted to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions to ensure an appropriate schedule is built.
- Your student is encouraged to meet with their advisor to help with any questions. UNE advisors want your students to be successful! But they can’t help if students don’t ask for help.
- Our academic advisors are excited to meet your student!
