Dear UNE Community Members,
September has arrived and so have your students! Our team was, and continues to be, very excited to welcome your new students to campus. Our fall orientation and Weeks of Welcome programming have marked what will be a transformational time in the life of your student.
Having met many of you during accepted student events, June orientation, and move-in, I understand that there is a wide range of emotions involved with the experience of dropping your student off with us. While some of you enthusiastically shared stories of your student’s excitement, others lamented a new reality; the empty nest. As I told your students this summer and again during our Convocation ceremony, whatever you may be feeling at this point is normal. Still not sure? Visit the link below to a piece I wrote on “The Parental Transition”.
Through this newsletter, which I will publish monthly, I will continue to provide you with valuable insight into what’s going on around campus, the trends facing our young people, and the resources they have access to. What you will find is that we’ve put into place a variety of resources, all intended to help your students to be their most successful selves.
Do you have a topic you’d like to learn more about or a question you’d like me to answer in a future Dean’s Newsletter? Send me an email with the word “newsletter” in the subject line, to parents@une.edu. I will continue to cultivate a list of themes and questions, and I welcome your additions!
Warmly,
Jen DeBurro, Ed.D.
Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students
