At UNE, we encourage your student to get involved and to immerse themself in all our community has to offer. With over 100 student clubs and organizations there is truly something for everyone, however, if your student has an idea for a club or organization, they are also invited to start their own! To learn more about our clubs and organizations, and their many upcoming events, your student can log into ‘Presence’ from their UNE Compass account.

In addition to the work of our clubs and organizations, UNE’s professional staff members also host a variety of fun opportunities for your student both on and off campus. On campus events during the first weeks of the semester included everything from an outdoor film festival to a celebration of autumn’s arrival with the Recreation Council’s Annual Fall Festival. Apple picking and trips to a Red Sox game and to visit Peaks Island, were also among our many offerings that prompted students to engage with one another in communities beyond our UNE campus. In the weeks ahead, students will be invited to participate in lots of events that celebrate the season, including a reverse trick-or-treat program, a Murder Mystery Night, and a Potato Festival. Varsity, club, and intramural sports, also provide an outlet for players and spectators alike. Finally, your student can tap into our collection of outdoor recreation equipment rentals and also learn new skills by participating in events like our “New Climbers” event which will teach the basics of rock climbing.

It may be your experience that during a text exchange or phone call with your student, they report there’s nothing going on, on campus. Should you hear this, please don’t panic! Know with confidence that there are lots of different opportunities for engagement, many of which you can learn about by clicking on links found throughout this brief article. What often sits below the surface of comments like this is not an absence of opportunity, but more often than not, a fear of where to start. Remind your student about some of the opportunities we’ve shared with you here. You know them best! Is your student a gamer who struggles to connect beyond the screen? Gently suggest they stop by the Esports Club Room. Maybe your student was involved with the drama club throughout high school and is seeking the kinship of other thespians; our UNE Players could satisfy that need! With so many diverse opportunities for engagement, it’s more than likely we have something that will suit the interests of your student.
