The fruits of Squirrelogy

Ethan Maskiell, Env Science major and Aquaculture & Aquarium Science minor 2020′, has been a part of the squirrel project for most of his time at UNE. During his last semester, Ethan hung up the telemetry gear and picked up the keys to the GIS (geographic information systems) lab. He wanted to spend the semester analyzing the collective data. This fascinating story map are the fruits of his labor, where he analyzed home range size and seasonality for all squirrels that we tracked for >30 days. The average home range was 9 ha (22 acres), waaaaaaaay bigger than what is documented in the literature for places where they are native. Love this project.
