The RCC Lab is proud to support academic excellence in our labbies. One way we do this is through our continued involvement in PSI CHI, the international Psychology Honor Society.
The University of New England’s Psi Chi Chapter, representing outstanding achievement in the programs of Psychology, Animal Behavior and Neuroscience, announced the induction of 23 new undergraduate members in April 2020.
Founded in 1929 during the International Congress of Psychology, Psi Chi is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and is an affiliate of both the American Psychological Association (APA) and the American Psychological Society (APS). With the stated mission of encouraging, stimulating and maintaining excellence in scholarship in the science of psychology, Psi Chi has grown to become one of the largest and most successful honor societies in the world with more than 1,000 chapters and over 735,000 members.
Our UNE PSI CHI Chapter is proud to offer many resume boosting events and opportunities for our students through events such as grad school informational night, alumni panels, volunteer experiences and more.
The RCC Lab regularly maintains involvement in many ways. Not only do we take advantage of all the chapter has to offer but our PI Dr. Stiegler-Balfour has served as the chapter advisor since 2011 and we have been home to many PSI CHI members and e-board members.
This year the PSI CHI induction ceremony looked slightly differently. The induction ceremony was held virtually on April 2, 2020, under the supervision of PSI CHI faculty advisor, Jennifer Stiegler-Balfour, Ph.D., associate professor and psychology program coordinator in the Department of Psychology, with the assistance of PSI CHI president and RCC Lab Manager, Nicole Martin; vice president, Katie Paul; secretary, Jessica Sarro; and treasurer, Cammy Macomber.
In addition to celebrating new inductees, graduating seniors, and new officers, the UNE PSI CHI Chapter also celebrated its 10th anniversary.
This year we are proud to announce labbie, Aubrey Sahouria was inducted to the honor society not only as a member but as a co president. Aubrey will be serving as co president with current labbie Nicole Martin.
Aubrey says that she is “so excited to become a part of PSI CHI this year. It is such a wonderful opportunity to converge with like-minded students in our department and to learn more about what we can do as students of psychology, neuroscience, and animal behavior. Though it was sad to be unable to celebrate the PSI CHI community in person, I’m nonetheless thrilled to become a member and make the most of all PSI CHI has to offer!”
Nicole also shared her thoughts on the induction ceremony saying that “I know this wasn’t a traditional PSI CHI ceremony, but regardless, I am thrilled for all of our new inductees! I have been involved with PSI CHI for a year now, so I have firsthand experience seeing all the great work our members do and all of the programs the club runs for students. PSI CHI has helped me meet so many new people and better understand all my options after UNE. I hope that our new members take advantage of all the opportunities that PSI CHI offers!
Congrats to all of the new PSI CHI members here at UNE! Additionally, Congrats to Aubrey for being inducted- we are so proud of you!
