Requesting Training for individuals working in Labs

Good Afternoon!

It is so exciting to start another academic year!  It is also the time when we have a lot of new people join our labs! We want to make sure that all individuals working in labs, including students (paid or volunteer), and volunteers, working, have completed the appropriate safety training within the last 12 months.

Unless you have confirmation that an individual working in your lab has completed lab training since March 1, 2021 or have recently sent me a training request for the people working in your lab, please complete the attached training request form (attached) for all temporary, part time, students and volunteers working in a lab setting.  Note: you do not need include supervised students conducting classroom laboratory assignments.  I will review submitted forms to confirm if they have completed training within the last 12 months and excuse or assign training as appropriate.

Benefits eligible individuals completed training as part of their annual compliance or may be in the process of completing training if they are a new hire.  You do not need to report benefits eligible individuals unless they are new to a lab or are newly working with materials such as mammals, blood, formaldehyde, radiation, personal health information etc. In these cases, please add them to the training request form.

Thank you for helping to assure that UNE laboratories are safe places for everyone to work!

If you have any questions about whether or not to include someone, please contact me and we can review the situation.
