Dr. Lei Lei, Professor of Molecular Biology at the School of Biological Sciences in CAS published a peer-reviewed research article.

Lei, L. and Burton, Z.F. (2022) “Superwobbling” and tRNA-34 wobble and tRNA-37 anticodon loop modifications in evolution and devolution of the genetic code. Life 12.

In this article, Dr. Lei and his collaborator, Dr. Zachary Burton, identify the roles of “Superwobbling”, tRNA-34 wobble, and tRNA-37 anticodon loop modifications in the evolution and devolution of the genetic code.  They propose a novel and yet detailed model to explain how the genetic code diverges from the cellular model to the mitochondrial model, a major event in the evolution of eukaryotes.
