UNE is launching the new Research Ethics Badge this spring, designed to equip you with the essential knowledge needed to navigate the ethical landscape of conducting human-subject, animal, and non-human subjects’ research.
What You Will Explore
This non-credit badge offers a deep dive into the core principles and practical applications of research ethics. Over the course, participants will:
- Explore Ethical Foundations: Investigate the historical context and foundational principles of research ethics.
- Practice Ethical Application: Learn to apply ethical models to complex research case studies.
- Understand Regulatory Committees: Develop in-depth knowledge of the major regulatory ethics committees, including the Institutional Review Board (IRB) for the protection of human subjects, the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) for research and teaching involving vertebrate animals, and the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) for work involving recombinant DNA and other biohazardous agents/materials.
- Design Ethical Projects: Practice designing responsible and ethical research projects from the ground up.
- Gain Practical Submission Experience: Gain hands-on experience by practicing the preparation and submission of research proposals to these ethical review boardss.
