Stephanie Nichols, Pharm.D., BCPS, BCPP, FCCP, associate professor of pharmacy practice, was recently invited to speak at the College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists (CPNP) 2020 Annual Meeting, which was scheduled to be held in Dallas, Texas and was converted to a virtual meeting due to the pandemic.
The title of her presentation was Buprenorphine and Methadone: Navigating Through Transitions of Care. The objectives of this presentation were.
1) Describe ongoing social and ethical issues regarding treatment of opioid use disorder.
2) Identify strategies to overcome barriers in engaging patients in treatment with medications for opioid use disorder.
3) Discuss the provision of medications for opioid use disorder in a variety of outpatient settings.
This presentation was attended by psychiatric pharmacists and trainees across the country and evaluations were overwhelmingly positive. One attendee later wrote in an email that “You sang to my soul as you talked about the stigma and using the appropriate language when we talk to and about these patients. During the first half I was getting chills as you talked about the patients comments and I could hear your passion coming through as I listened.”
