Students Lauren DiGiovanni, COM, Reilly Dunning, COM, Sarah Mayrose, PharmD, & Katelyn McKenzie, MSOT, and faculty members Kristina Stewart, MPH, DrPH(c) & Christopher Bates-Withers, MMS, PA-C, CAQ-HM, CAQ-CVTS, CHSE will be part of a lightening round describing their CAIEP funded mini-grant project: ‘An Interdisciplinary Approach to Harm Reduction Supporting Individuals Reentering the Community from Incarceration’. The students led a robust initiative to build harm reduction kits for individuals reentering the community and wellness bags for corrections officers. Their goals were to reduce stigma associated with substance use disorders and incarceration and improve the possibilities of success for those rejoining their communities.
A lightning talk presented by 4th year UNECOM students Emma Zorda, Mikayla Sargent, Cara Gose, and Mitchell Becker and UNEMSOT faculty Adam DePrimo, PhD, along with Rosalind Franklin colleagues, Sarah S. Garber, PhD and Tamzin Batteson, BSc will share their findings from a cross-institutional research project investigating the impact of a team-based telehealth simulation experience on various health profession students. ‘Challenging Hierarchies and Fostering Collaboration: A Critical Discourse Analysis of Interprofessional education (IPE) in Healthcare Training’ aimed to better understand the influence of healthcare hierarchies in interprofessional education.
COM students Jessica Jawhar, BS and Rosane St. Paul, Master of Science in Applied Nutrition will present their poster, ‘Managing Pediatric Asthma through Interprofessional Telehealth Collaboration’, which highlights their experience as participants in the Interprofessional Team Immersion. Their standardized patients were parents living in rural Maine managing their young child’s complex asthma. The poster is one of only 20 student poster abstracts to be accepted for the 2024 Nexus Summit.
