Tiyasha Banerjee ad William Sampson members of the Wood Laboratory at UNE attended the 52nd Maine Biological and Medical Sciences Symposium (MBMSS) at MDI Biological Laboratory, Bar Harbor, Maine.

They had a poster on their research on osteoarthritis and manufacturing of their novel CellWell, patented by Dr.Scott Wood. Chondrocytes are the specialized cells that make and maintain articular cartilage. Past cell culture studies in chondrocytes are complicated by the fact that nearly all have used non-physiological culture conditions such as stiff and flat substrates, normoxic conditions, and serial passage of cells. As such, a micropatterned composite thin-film platform was developed and patented by Dr. Scott Wood’s laboratory, called the CellWell, which aims to recapitulate in vivo conditions. The Wood Laboratory works with Mechanotransduction and Aging Model in chondrocytes.
