Summer! Time for beach walks, campfires, graduation and shifting student employment. We want to make sure that all individuals working in labs, including students (paid or volunteer) and volunteers have completed the appropriate safety training within the last 12 months.
Unless you have confirmation that an individual working in your lab has completed lab training since January 1, 2022 or have recently sent me a training request for the people working in your lab, please complete the attached training request form (attached) for all temporary, part time, students (including federal work study) and volunteers working in a lab setting. Note: you do not need include supervised students conducting classroom laboratory assignments. As employees, students and volunteers working in a lab setting are required by law to complete training annually, I will review submitted forms to confirm if they have completed the University’s core training as well as appropriate lab training within the last 12 months and excuse or assign training as appropriate.
Benefits eligible individuals recently completed or are in the process of finishing up their training as part of the annual compliance training. You do not need to report benefits eligible individuals unless they are new to a lab or are newly working with materials such as mammals, blood, formaldehyde, radiation, personal health information etc. In these cases, please add them to the training request form.
Thank you for assuring that UNE laboratories are safe places for everyone to work!
If you have any questions about whether or not to include someone, please contact EH&S to review the training needs. Refer questions about the training request form and process to tlouko@une.edu.
