New Indirect Rate Agreement

The Office of Sponsored Programs has been notified that UNE has received a new negotiated Indirect Rate Agreement.  Effective immediately, all new extramural funding proposals requesting our negotiated rate should use the new rate for all projects with a start date on or after 6/1/20.  The new on-campus rate is 42% on MTDC, and applies to all grant programs (research, training, service) where full IDC is allowed.  Here is a link to the new agreement:   https://www.une.edu/sites/default/files/une-rate-agreement-2020.pdf

It is important to note that this is the first agreement for UNE that utilizes a Modified Total Direct Costs (MTDC) base instead of a Salaries and Wages base.   Instead of applying the new rate only to salaries, we will apply the rate to all cost categories (e.g. Personnel, fringe, supplies, other) with the exception of equipment (unit purchase cost over $5,000), tuition, and any part of each subaward over $25,000.  Page 2 of the rate agreement fully describes what shall be included and excluded from the base before applying the rate.

This new rate will not affect existing awards, which will remain at the rate in effect at the time they were awarded, for the entire competitive segment, as required by the federal funding agencies.  For any new awards (not including continuations) issued after 6/1/20, we anticipate the award will be issued at the new rate.  If not, OSP staff will work with the federal agency to request a revised award which incorporates the new rate.

If you have any questions, please direct them to your OSP staff member or to Nicholas Gere, Director of Research Administration at ngere@une.edu
