Guest Bio

Aileen Huang-Saad, PhD, MBA is an Associate Professor of Bioengineering at Northeastern University and the Director of Life Sciences and Engineering Programs at The Roux Institute (Portland, Maine). She comes to Maine after several years in industry and 14 years at University of Michigan (U-M) where she created the U-M BME graduate design program, co-founded the U-M College of Engineering Center for Entrepreneurship, launched the U-M National Science Foundation (NSF) I-Corps Node, and developed the U-M BME Instructional Incubator. Aileen has also established scholarly research funded by NSF in entrepreneurship, innovation, and transforming higher education. She seeks to use evidence-based practices to close the gap between higher education and professional practice. Aileen is Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Springer’s Biomedical Engineering Education, Past Division Chair for the American Society of Engineering Education’s Biomedical Engineering Division, and a member of the National Academy of Science Roundtable on Systemic Change in Undergraduate STEM Education. She also serves on the Maine State Workforce Board. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, her PHD from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and an MBA from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business. Aileen is the proud mom of 2 sons and is a fitness data fanatic.
