Research Council Meeting – April 16, 2020

Updates – COVID-19 and more:

  • ORS provides guidance to research community about actions during Covid-19 pandemic and works closely with PIs.
  • ORS has re-activated the RS Blog to share updates with the research community. Karen and Zeynep plan to send weekly reminders about updates. Please check https://sites.une.edu/research/blog/
  • Director of Research Integrity started on March 30th. IRB renewed. HIPAA Coordinator will start at the beginning of May.
  • Mini grants on hold. OSP (Nick Gere) is working with each one according NIH / NFS procedures including status of grant-funded employees.  Mini Grants will be discussed on Friday, 4/17 at the newly charged Center and Institute Director Council.
  • Ad Hoc Committee on Contingency Planning for AY 21: RC members will send   views about on curriculum (online vs face-to-face) and challenges to Holly Parker in a few lines being share at the next management meeting.
  • Roux Inst. and UNE collaboration continues. There will be some strategic opportunities after quarantine. Roux actively hires in the hopes of starting classes on September’20.
  • UNE forecasting for the fall semester is good for returning students.  Dorm deposits are full and class registrations nearly complete. Online admission sessions are very successful, including financial advisory meetings. Status of incoming freshman class size still pending.
  • The success of ongoing Spring’20 online courses is very high.
  • Student affairs works with students including counseling support. Donations for students’ needs, please contact student affairs.
  • Some students still live in UNE dorm. There is a food pantry for students’ needs. For donations, please contact Holly Hammond.
  • UNE is grateful of faculty and staffs’ caring the students. Thank you!

Strategic planning progress and preparation for May 14th meeting with executive leadership (KH & HP)

  • The following questions from senior leadership will be addressed:
    • What was the strategic plan? What happened? 
    • What were the obstacles?
    • Now, what are the challenges with Covid-19?
  • Karen will reach and work with each of you with the SWOT analysis report.
