Whether you’ve already applied to UNE (congrats!) or you’re still considering your options, we wanted to share a glimpse of what you can expect when you apply. Here, we’ll discuss everything from the application and review process to financial aid and final decisions. We know that applying to college can feel like a daunting process, and we are to guide you every step of the way!
How to Apply
Feel free to skip this section if you’ve already applied. If you haven’t completed your application yet, this is an excellent place to start. You can apply to UNE via the Common Application or the UNE application.
Test-Blind Admission: UNE uses a test-blind admissions policy, which means we will not consider ACT or SAT scores for admission. Instead, we will review your high school experience as a whole. If you’re applying for our Nursing program, our Medical Biology/Pre-Dental Medicine 3+4 D.M.D. program, or our Medical Biology/Pre-Medicine 3+4 D.O. program, you have the option to submit your test scores. Please see our test policy for more information.
Application Deadlines for Fall 2023:
- Early Action: November 15, 2022
- Regular Decision: February 15, 2023
You may be wondering if you should apply Early Action or Regular Decision. We recommend checking out our blog post all about this topic, but here’s a quick breakdown of some Early Action advantages:
- De-stress: Once you know where you’ll be going to college, you can spend the rest of your year focused on finishing high school right.
- Save your space: If your major has a limited number of seats, enrolling early helps UNE ensure that there’s a place for you. Hint: Applicants for Nursing, Pre-Dental Medicine (3+4 D.M.D.), and Pre-Medicine (3+4 D.O.) should apply by the Early Action deadline.
- More choice: Early Action is non-binding, so if you are accepted the final choice is still yours.
I Applied, Now What?
After you’ve completed your application, take some time to celebrate and pat yourself on the back! The first part of the admission process is behind you. Next, you can expect our admissions counselors to review your application. Since UNE is test-blind, we will be looking at your academic coursework and grades, essays, recommendations, and any additional materials you choose to submit.
Sometimes after an initial application review, our admissions committee may ask for additional documentation, such as your mid-term grades, to make an admission decision. Your admissions counselor will contact you directly if that is the case.
Above all, we are looking for a strong academic and personal record that will allow you to become a good fit within our community. We love seeing what you’re involved with outside the classroom, too! Make sure your school activities, after-school activities, and letters of recommendation attest to your involvement and character.
What About Financial Aid?
Applying for financial aid is separate from your college application. To be considered for financial aid, you will have to complete the FAFSA: the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. This information is what the U.S. Department of Education and all U.S. colleges and universities use to determine how much financial aid you’ll receive. This includes grants, scholarships, federal loans, and federal work study.
The application is easy, quick and free. Read our blog post for helpful FAFSA tips, or feel free to reach out directly to our Financial Aid office with any specific questions. It’s important to note that UNE does not have a deadline to submit the FAFSA. However, we recommend completing the application as soon as possible. You’ll use UNE’s school code (002050) to complete the application.
Merit aid is different from standard financial aid offerings, and will be detailed in your acceptance letter. Your merit award will be determined by our admissions team — you won’t have to fill out a separate application. Katie Bernier, Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admissions, explains:
We determine merit aid based off the first three years of your high school transcript. We use your unweighted GPA to determine this offering. Merit scholarships are a set amount awarded each year for all four years of your undergraduate career.
Final Decisions
If you apply Early Action by November 15, 2022, you can expect your admissions decision before January 15, 2023. If you apply Regular Decision — at UNE, this is the window between November 16, 2022, and February 15, 2023 — the time it takes for you to hear back from us will vary based on when we receive your application and all required documents, such as your official transcript. Once we have received those materials, we will review your complete file, and you can expect your admission decision in two to six weeks.
Applications received after February 15, 2023 will be reviewed and accepted based on space availability.
Your admissions counselor is your go-to contact and will reach out to you with any questions or outstanding application information that may be needed. Your official admission decision will come in the mail, and if accepted, will include all the details and next steps you’ll need to enroll at UNE.
Most colleges and universities require an enrollment deposit. UNE’s enrollment deposit deadline is May 1, 2023, and includes a $300 tuition deposit and $200 campus housing deposit. Submitting your deposit guarantees your space in the incoming class and also opens your eligibility to select housing and dining preferences. After May 1, enrollment deposits are accepted on a space-available basis.

You can also see if your admissions counselor will be visiting your high school on our website. We have a variety of great virtual and on-campus events coming up, including:
- Discover UNE Virtual Series: Hear from current students and gain valuable information about the college search process from our admissions team. You’ll learn all the tools to navigate the college process — from your application to your acceptance — while also hearing from our students what makes UNE stand out.
- Academic Information Sessions: From dynamic online events to experiential tours on campus, each session provides a program overview, highlights experiential learning opportunities, and explores the resources and facilities UNE has to offer.
- Campus Tours: Offered Monday-Friday and select Saturdays. Tours last up to 90 minutes and include academic and athletics facilities, dining and study areas, and an opportunity to meet with an admissions counselor.
